This sacred mandala depicts the Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss, the ideal world where Amitabha Buddha resides. It is a quarter-scale replica of the Taima Mandala, a National Treasure preserved at Taimadera Temple in Nara Prefecture.

The mandala is divided into two sections called the inner and outer sanctuaries. The inner sanctuary depicts the Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss with Amitabha Buddha at the center, flanked by Avalokiteshvara Bodhisattva and Mahasthamaprapta Bodhisattva, surrounded by a host of deities. Behind them rise large buildings, while the sky above is teeming with celestial beings riding on clouds. The space below features lush natural scenery, including ponds and trees.

The outer sanctuary depicts various scenes from Buddhist iconography. On the left border is the tale of Crown Prince Ajatashatru, who repented his violent actions and became a faithful follower of Shakyamuni. The right and bottom borders show scenes from the Sixteen Contemplations, in which Amitabha Buddha visits the world of the living.

Created during the Kamakura Period (1185–1333), when Pure Land Buddhism flourished, this image stands out for its artistic mastery.
