The mausoleum of Shinsei Shonin is located to the west of the Main Hall and Guest Hall, at the top of a steep and long stone staircase.
The roof displays the pyramidal hougyou-zukuri style, with a coffered ceiling.
A long pent roof extends from the front, supported by decorative bottle-shaped struts supporting the arched beams.
The front doors are paneled with floral openwork carvings, flanked by katoumado curvilinear windows, and the forward sides feature shitomido wooden shutters.
The frog-leg struts and pillars are adorned with intricate carvings of serene monkeys, arabesque designs, and other detailed decorations, and there is a five-tiered pagoda enshrined inside.
Although small, this building is a remarkable piece of architecture, fitting for the mausoleum of the sect’s founder.
